Dangote Cement has become the largest taxpayer in Nigeria. The Nigerian cement manufacturer is the first of 152 companies listed by the Nigerian Trade Commission, NGX, in the first six months of 2021.
In the first 6 months of 2021, Dangote Cement Company and 13 other companies trading in NGX paid N289.4b in taxes to FIRS and other government revenue agencies.
Dangote Cement paid the federal government N89.62 billion, an increase of 144% over N36.71bn in 2020. Other statistics show that MTN Nigeria, the second largest tax payer, generated N73.29 billion in H1 2021, up 64% from N44.69 billion reported in H1 2020. United Bank for Africa paid N15.06 billion in taxes out of the N12.7 billion it paid. Guaranty Trust Holding Co PLC, although it came third to pay N13.64 billion in H1 2021, means a 12% reduction from N15.44 billion paid in H1 2020. Data was obtained on how Access Bank paid N10.55 billion in H1 2020 tax from N13.27 billion in H1 2020. Zenith Bank Plc paid N10.94 billion in H1 2020 tax, an increase of 6.2% from N10.3 billion in H1 2020. On the other hand, FBN Holdings paid N7.15 billion in taxes on H1 2020 plus 24% over N5.77 billion in H1 2020. Nestle Nigeria Plc paid N11.65 billion in taxes on H1 2020 in the area of high-speed consumer goods. enterprise (FCMG), a 3.2% decrease from N12.04 billion reported in H1 2021

Taxes on Nigerian Breweries Plc and Guinness Nigeria Plc were received at H1 2021 for N4.2 billion and N4.5 billion respectively.
