TODAY, Thursday, BBC Hausa Radio will announce the winner of the 2022 Hikayata Competition for women writers. The name will be announced at an awards ceremony for the champions of the competition which will be held at the Yar'Adua Center in Abuja.

This year's competition is the seventh since 2016 when BBC Hausa started organizing it every year.
Three young people - Hassana Labaran Danlarabawa, Amira Souley, and Maryam Muhammad Sani - are the writers who reached the final stage of the competition this year.
Maryam and Hassana are married women from Kano, while Amira is a primary school teacher from Maradi town in the Republic of Niger. Hassana came to the final stage with a story titled 'Guzuma's Birth', Amira came to the stage with a story called 'Gudun Gara' or 'Garar Biki', while Maryam reached the stage with a story called 'My Community.
This is the second time that a non-Nigerian woman has reached the final stage of the competition because last year Nana Aicha Hamissou Abdoulaye - also from Maradi - became one of the three champions of the competition. Just like last year's champions, they are all writers who do most of their writing on the internet, which in English are called 'online writers'. However, Hassana Danbaraba has published some of her books.
Film magazine had a meeting with the three champions at the BBC office in Abuja yesterday Wednesday, where each of them expressed their happiness over this success. In the interview, each one stated that she had participated in the competition before, but only this time God gave her luck.
Maryam, who is 27 years old and the mother of three children, said: "Thank God. I felt very happy. I feel like I'm in a dream like it's not real... Alhamdulillah, I feel very, very happy, the pleasure cannot be expressed in words."
Amira, who is 24 years old, said: "Actually, I can't describe the happiness I experienced."
She added that she had a dream where she saw Hassana Danlarabawa with a woman from Kano and another woman who she did not know who she was. Since last year she had the same dream, and it came true, she thought that this year she is not among the champions of the competition.
Amira said: "I was sitting here, I didn't get up from my bed, then I heard a call from a Nigerian number." Then I took it, my face was falling. He gave me the good news (saying) that I am among the three sparrows. I don't know what I'm going through. It is said that Shudujul Shukur is done, but I did Raka'atul Shukur!"
On her part, Hassana Danlaraba said that ever since the BBC announced that her story is among the first 20 stories that will be aired, three of them, she has not stopped praying. Also, her phone is always charging because she is waiting for a call from the BBC.
Hassana, who is 29 years old, said: "All of a sudden, on the day I was to be called, I had no charge. , then I fell asleep.
"When I fell asleep, did the BBC call me? My phone rang and I didn't pick it up, and I was still sleeping.
Then at noon, my daughter came back from school and knocked at home, so I went to open it. When I opened it, I said that I was going to go and check my phone to see.
"I was looking, and I saw 'missed call' and that's a strange number. I see, I just felt the fall of the future, I said that last year I followed this call, but I don't know if it is good.
"Well, I was following the call, and I just heard a voice, a man raised his voice and said, 'Peace be upon you.' Usman is from the Hausa Department of the BBC; His name is Usman Minjibir.' The phone wanted to fall from my hand because I heard his name said from the BBC, so I confirmed that I was successful!"
In their interview with Film magazine, the actors explained the themes of their stories.
The story 'Al'umma Ta' by Maryam Muhammad Sani is built on the theme of politics in the village. In it, the struggle of a prostitute named Hauwa'u (known in the village as Kululuwa) was revealed in their village. She is a woman who has studied up to the NCE scholarship level.
Kululuwa went to the media such as radio and social media and criticized the politicians for saying that they have done good to the people and continue to develop even if they have not done so, which has attracted the politicians. They went to them and I did such work for the village. She does this in secret, under the false name she gave herself, which is Majadun Maijaki.
But her secret was revealed after she made the mistake of forgetting to hide at one time, which eventually caused her to be beaten by the vigilantes.
Kululuwa continued to fight until the people of the area got tired of being deceived by the politicians, where she finally participated in the election of their local council, got the support of her people, and won the election. Her opponent went to court to file a complaint against the results of the election.
And Hassana Dannalaraba, the subject of her story 'The Birth of Guzuma'
it is the greed of some mothers in marrying off their children. The story brought to light a mother who wanted her daughter to marry only a rich man, after all, the girl's father did not want that.
In the end, someone with money was found and married to him. But then he came to his bride in need of money because all his money was added to the marriage and the party, he said that he would enter into a business where he would get a big profit.
And she told her mother. The mother agreed, she gave everything she owned, including selling all her property, and they gave the money to the husband.
At the same time, three months after the marriage, the girl became pregnant. The husband took her to the hospital, and from there she went home and informed her mother. There was rejoicing and the road to the bed was taken. But when she was going home, she found that the husband had left her three divorce papers, and he had taken away the house's belongings and ran away. In the letter he left for her, he showed her that he had cheated on her. He said that the house is not his, it is for rent, and everything that has been done, including his guardians, is all fake.
Also the story of Amira Souley, that is 'Gudun Gara' or 'Gara Biki' comes with the theme of deception. It is built on the way some mothers take the celebration of the festival with a great importance, they are struggling with their lives because of the speed of the fire. Amira described how the star of the story, Fati, and her mother insisted on it, and they did better to be disrespectful when the girl's party came. There, Fati and Hauwa, her uncle's daughter, were brought the wedding money.
As for Fati's father, who is a rewarder, he said that he will not do any better. Fati met Sani, who tricked her into sending him nude photos, and he kept giving her money. She agreed. Three days after her wedding, he threatened her to either go and meet him to have sex or he would release the photos she was sending him.
She even tried to crash her car and die to avoid the shame of the world but in vain. She was forced to go and sleep with him, unknown.
That night, her sister's room was broken into and the clothes that the mother had collected were stolen. Sani released the photos. The talk of marriage is broken. They were ashamed of each other. In these three stories, you will hear who is the hero.
