We have agreed to redefine the naira but there is one thing..., said the Senate
The Senate on Wednesday, November 16 expressed its support for the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) policy to reform the Nigerian currency, The Nation reports.
This is coming from the recommendation made by the council by the chairman of its committee on banking, insurance and financial affairs, Senator Sani Uba.
While she agreed to the reform, she also commented that the end of January is close to returning the money circulating in the country to the bank.
The council called on the CBN to do public awareness work, especially in rural areas to ensure that Nigerians are aware of the new bank refund law.
She explained that this will help Nigerians living in rural areas to know the current situation to avoid losing their part.
She also requested the CBN to ensure the ease of modern financial transactions to give citizens the opportunity to deposit money in the bank at the specified time.
In the same way, the council asked the CBN to ensure the safety of the people who will collect their money from a distance, especially considering the frequency of terrorism in this country.
Finally, she asked the bank to provide ways to ensure that the terrorists did not have access to the funds in their hands.
