Celine Dion cancels shows because of stiff person syndrome
After being diagnosed with a rare neurological disorder, Celine Dion has stopped performing.
In an emotional video message posted in French and English on Instagram on Thursday, Celine Dion said that she has spasms because of stiff person syndrome, which makes it hard for her to walk and sing.
"She said, "Unfortunately, the spasms affect every part of my daily life. Sometimes they make it hard for me to walk, and I can't use my vocal cords to sing like I used to."
Celine Dion said she had no choice but to delay her "Courage" tour, which was supposed to start up again in February after several delays. Her concerts for spring 2023 have been moved to spring 2024, and her concerts for summer 2023 have been canceled.
"I miss seeing you all, being on stage, and putting on a show for you. I always give my shows my all, but because of my health, I can't do that right now," she said.
Stiff person syndrome makes muscles stiff and causes painful muscle spasms that can be caused by loud noises or light touch. It's not known what caused it, but it's thought to be an autoimmune disorder. In severe cases, it can make it hard to walk and cause you to slouch.
Celine Dion is the best-selling female artist of all time, with hits like "I'm Alive" and "My Heart Will Go On." She has won five Grammy Awards and two Academy Awards.
