A Spanish man lost his life after getting stuck inside a dinosaur monument.

Spanish police reported on Tuesday that a 40-year-old man passed away after becoming stuck within a sizable dinosaur statue in a Barcelona suburb.

There is no suspicion of wrongdoing, according to a spokesman for the local police department, the Mossos d'Esquadra, although it is unclear why the man entered the decorative stegosaurus outside a shuttered movie theater in Santa Coloma de Gramenet.

She told AFP that "everything points to it being an unintentional death."

On Saturday, the police were called to the site.

According to Spanish media, the papier-mache figure was giving out an odd stench when it was discovered by a father and his son playing nearby, who then called the police.

The man's body was found inside one of the dinosaur's legs; firefighters removed it.

Local media reports that authorities believe the man, who had been reported missing by his family, had gone inside the statue either to sleep there or to try to get anything out, like his phone, but got stuck.

Homeless people have occasionally slept inside the dinosaur statue in the past.

The man is thought to have entered the dinosaur through a detachable slab in the stomach.
