Nathaniel Bassey, one of the most popular Nigerian gospel performers, was born in 1978 to a family from Ikot Ofon Ikono in the Akwa-Ibom state's Uyo local government area and lives in Lagos. His father, Mr. E Joshua Bassey, was a pastor at The Apostolic Church Bashua Assembly when he was born, and the family was an ardent Christian.

He developed a tremendous enthusiasm for music while growing up, especially jazz music, which was encouraged by gospel music legend Dr. Panam Percy Paul. Currently, one of the most well-known Nigerian gospel songs is a Nathaniel Bassey tune. From the University of London, he earned a degree in politics and international relations.
