National Electoral Commission (INEC) says BVAS will be operated by civil servants on Election Day
The Independent Electoral Commission of Nigeria has said that only National Servicemen will use the BVAS voter identification machine on election day.
The chairman of the commission, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, said this when he visited the training centers for the temporary workers hired by the commission to manage the election, in Abuja, the capital of the country.
Professor Yakubu said that for the successful conduct of the board elections, the unity of those who serve the country is needed.
The head of the commission also called on those who serve the country to be loyal to Nigeria and Nigerians and not a party or any other candidate.
He again urged them not to give the BVAS device to an election officer, saying that each one of them will be followed up.
Yakubu said, “Nigeria is lucky to have citizens like you. There is no way INEC can conduct elections without those who serve the country. You are indispensable for the conduct of Nigerian elections. We cannot hold elections without your help.''
"That's why we rely on you and other workers. And you will use the most important thing (BVAS) in the process of conducting the elections in each polling booth, where each person will go to cast his vote. therefore, each of you will swear that he will be our son-in-law in the election. You will be loyal to Nigeria and not any party or candidate. You are the representatives of INEC at the polling stations. That's why you are the leaders in the polling booths''.
