Nigeria's AA Rano Airline Receives Authorization To Begin Operations

An announcement from a government spokeswoman states that Nigerian startup Rano Air (RAN) has obtained federal government authorization to run domestic flights.

The airline received the formal approval for flights to/from Lagos, Kano, Abuja, Kaduna International, Sokoto, Gombe, Yola, Maiduguri, and Asaba, according to Bashir Ahmad, special assistant to Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari on social media.

Neither Rano Air nor the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) was immediately accessible for comment.

The airline revealed last month that it has acquired four EMB-145LRs to begin operating commercially by the end of the year while also finishing up its air operator's license (AOC).

After submitting its original application for authorization to run scheduled and non-scheduled passenger and cargo services inside and outside of Nigeria in mid-2020, Rano Air, founded in 2019, reapplied for an air transport license in January 2022.

Oil millionaire Alhaji Auwalu Abdullahi Rano, who was born in Kano and serves as the holding company's executive chairman and CEO, owns Rano Air.
