INEC CHAIRMAN MEETING WITH UNIVERSITY PRINCIPALS: Security Officers Will Protect The Lives And Health Of University Teachers Who Will Do Election Work - Professor Yakubu
Exactly two weeks before the election, the Chairman of the National Electoral Commission, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, assured the Heads of Universities that the lives and health of all the teachers who will do the election work will be protected.
Yakubu said that INEC is working with all the security agencies across the country to provide full security for the workers who will do the election work at different levels up to 10 levels.
From the top of the list of election officials are the Chief Electoral Officer of the State, the State Returning Officers, the Electoral Officer, and his assistant, and the observers who have been assessed to oversee the conduct of the election. There are also journalists, who are also certified, who will go around and collect news of what is happening in the polling stations and centers for collecting the results of the elections.
The Chairman of INEC said that insurance has been provided for any worker who has been assessed to do election work.
The heads of the universities expressed their concerns to the INEC President during their meeting at the National Universities Commission Headquarters, which is close to the INEC Headquarters in Abuja, on Thursday.
It was Yakubu who asked for the meeting so that the names of the university professors who will do the election work will be approved.
However, some leaders of the universities have expressed concern about the security problem in some areas and that some teachers will be sent to places that are not in the cities.
Here, Yakubu assured them that everywhere even in the election results collection centers.
He said he met with the leaders of the country's security forces, and they assured him that they would provide adequate security.

Yakubu said that university teachers will be trained for election work on the 21st and 22nd of February.
