See How a pregnant woman lost her life in Kano hospital because of refusal to accept old money
A 32-year-old woman named Shema'u Sani Labaran died nine months pregnant at the Abdullahi Wase Specialist Hospital in Kano, due to failure to pay for the treatment her relatives did. The receipts were requested to be new naira bills or by money order.
Before Shema'u lost her life, the mother of three was in pain for more than eight hours without receiving care from the staff on duty.
Narrating the tragedy that caused the death of his wife, the deceased's 42-year-old husband, Bello Ali Baffa, told reporters that Shema'u died when he was struggling to find a way to pay for medical treatment.
Baffa explained how he spent hours waiting for the cashier to confirm the payment of N8,528 because the hospital stopped accepting old naira bills.
He added that he was not happy with the fact that the medical staff insisted that they would not take his late wife's help until he deposited the necessary money and gave evidence before she was taken.
Baffa said that at first, he gave the cashier 8,500 nairas in old bills but he was told that the hospital board had imposed restrictions on the old money and there was no POS machine so he had to go somewhere else.
Baffa explained that later the doctor came out of the delivery room at about 3 o'clock in the night, where he informed him "May God accept the life of your wife and the baby inside her".
Although the husband said that he believed Shema'u would die at the right time, he insisted that the hospital insulted his wife? The rejection of old naira notes contributed to her sudden death.
Baffa stated that he believes in his position as a Muslim, but he requested the state government to investigate its hot policies to save the lives of innocent people from death as he lost Shema'u.
