The Supreme Court of Nigeria has postponed the case on the term of old money
The Supreme Court of Nigeria has adjourned the hearing of the case filed by some governors challenging the mandate of the Central Bank of Nigeria to use old money.
The court said it will adjourn the hearing until March 3, 2023.
Judge John Okoro, who is presiding over the case, announced the new date for the hearing of the case after hearing from the lawyers of both parties.
Earlier, the federal government declared the 31st of January 2023 as the date to stop using the old 1,000, 500, and 200 naira currency notes.
However, President Muhammadu Buhari later agreed to extend the deadline to February 10.
However, the states of Kaduna, Zamfara and Kogi filed the case on the third day of February, challenging the mandate of the federal government.
Then during the court session on February 15, some seven states of the country supported the first three states in challenging the federal government's action.
On the eighth day of February, the court stopped the federal government from implementing the deadline for using the old bills.
