13 Nigerian athletes compete for NCAA titles.
This weekend, 13 Nigerian athletes will take part in the Division 1 Indoor Track and Field Championships. This is happening as the rest of the world gets ready for the National Collegiate Athletic Association.
Indoor track and field championships for the NCAA will be held at the Albuquerque Convention Center in Albuquerque, New Mexico, on March 10 and 11, 2023.
The indoor championships will be held in New Mexico for the first time since 2014 at this year's event.
Nigerian athletes who are taking part are Godson Brume (60m), Favour Ashe (60m), Udodi Onwuzurike (200m), Alaba Akintola (60m, 200m), Nathaniel Ezekiel (400m), Erhire Best (High Jump), Favour Ofili (60m, 200m), and Rosemary Chukwuma (60m, 200m).
Ezinne Abba (60m and 200m), Ella Onojuvwevwo (4x400m), Esther Isa (Long Jump), Onaara Obamuwagun (Triple Jump), and Grace Anigbata are among the others (Triple Jump).
Eddie Nuez, who is in charge of athletics at the University of New Mexico, spoke before the competition and said that the championships were a one-of-a-kind chance.
He also said that the goal of New Mexico is to make sure that everyone who goes has a fun and memorable time.
"Our staff has worked hard to put together a great championship, and we have been looking forward to this event for a long time. Please know that we are all here to make sure you have a good time in Albuquerque, and we are happy to serve you and answer any questions you may have," he said.
