Shania Twain has been a proud parent since 2001.

The singer welcomed son Eja D'Angelo Lange, 21, on Aug. 12, 2001, with her then-husband Robert "Mutt" Lange.

"My priorities, of course, have changed. He is my daily priority, Twain said of Eja (pronounced "Asia, "in a CBC interview from 2002. "He's just brought so much more love into my life."

The "You're Still The One" singer had moved to Switzerland with her then-husband because she believed she could give her son a typical upbringing there. "I would like him to be well-rounded, humble and honest, without needing to be deprived to develop that character," she remarked in 2007. "We make an effort to maintain his gratitude. We don't keep him in a bubble."

After her husband had an affair with her friend Marie-Anne Thiébaud, Twain and Lange divorced in 2008. The singer gave Eja her full attention after their divorce. "As you know, I am a mom and all my energy goes to making sure my little man is healthy and happy in every way," she wrote in 2009.

However, Frédéric Thiébaud, Marie-Anne's ex-husband, and Twain fell in love and got married in 2011. She claimed in 2010 that "[he] has been the most constant companion and support for both Eja and I." He understands me better than anyone because he experienced the pain of his family dissolving at the same time and under the same trying circumstances.

The Canadian singer has said she loves being a mother to both Eja and stepdaughter Johanna. "I wish I had more children," she said on ITV's Lorraine in 2017. "I have a beautiful stepdaughter and I have a beautiful son. I'm very happy. I just love being a parent and I would have loved to have had more kids."

He has a special lullaby from his mom

When Eja was a baby, his country star mom would sing to him. Twain revealed the son's lullaby in a 2005 interview with Tony Danza. She sang: "Eja D, can you count to one, two, three? / Isn't anybody as lovely as my Eja D!"

He liked cooking as a kid

In 2007, Twain reported that 6-year-old Eja loves to assist out in the kitchen. "He enjoys cooking already. He doesn't love cleaning up his toys, but he'll do it," she added.

Eja undoubtedly received his childhood passion from his mother. In a 2018 interview with The Mirror, Twain recalled the years she spent away from performing after she was diagnosed with Lyme disease. I did a lot of mothering [while on sabbatical] since I enjoy cooking, she remarked. "I enjoyed those crucial years with my son."

He is a musician

Eja is a musician, just like his Grammy-winning parents – Twain and Lange both have five Grammys for songwriting and performance, while Twain has five for songwriting and production.

"He's been making music for a few years now," Twain told Sounds Like Nashville in 2017. "He works extremely hard and is very devoted. It's fascinating to watch his crazed passion for music creation."

Eja has a wide range of listening preferences: "He is a fan of EDM, so that is where he is as a listener, but he also enjoys other types of music. He enjoys a broad array of goods. One of his biggest heroes is Hans Zimmer. His musical interests cover a very wide range, so he creates all kinds of music and orchestrates a lot of events. He enjoys writing and arranging music. He is only traveling for himself."

The mother-son team has also worked together in the studio. On Live with Kelly and Ryan in 2021, Twain discussed her "extremely musical" kid. When it comes to writing and producing, we occasionally enter the studio together, she said. We share ideas with one another. Said her: "It can also be a bit challenging since I use a different system than he does—Pro Tools—and he uses Logic. But aside from that, we just exchange music. He utilizes synths, while I play the guitar. You never know, maybe someday we'll come up with something really great."

He doesn't want to become a performer

"He's not taking interest in being a performer, so I'm relieved about that if I was being truly honest," Twain told Sounds Like Nashville. "Being the one who composes the music, I believe he will appreciate it more. Unless that's what he really wants, performing and being in the spotlight is very taxing. He just has a peaceful confidence about him. He doesn't possess that outgoing personality. Being the creator will, in my opinion, suit him nicely."

Twain emphasized, "He doesn't want to be a performer, so he's more in his dad's realm of things," in a 2017 interview with the New York Times. She stated that she had given Eja some of her voice stem files for experimenting, but she made sure to inform him: "You have to have your own thing."

He likes quiet holidays.

Eja and Twain keep their vacations straightforward.

In 2018, Twain stated to The Mirror, "He'll have just three presents at Christmas." Several people would mail him things, so I told him that whatever he didn't use after a month would be donated to charity.

Twain has been candid about living in poverty as a child and caring for her younger siblings after their mother and stepfather passed away in a car accident. She admitted to The Mirror that how she raised Eja was influenced by her upbringing. She told the site, "He'll never know my upbringing or the way I grew up; it's like another lifetime away." "You need to work really hard not to spoil your kids,"

She continued: "I have to be careful not to let him have everything he wants, so I've only ever baked a cake for his birthday gift. ... It's all he's known. He anticipates it. I'd say, 'You know what you're receiving from me on your birthday,' and he'd look forward to it."

His independence inspired Twain to focus on her voice

Twain left the spotlight for more than a decade following her Lyme disease diagnosis. She later had open throat surgery and had to relearn how to speak. Eja's increasing independence was what motivated Twain to get help.

"I was on a long sabbatical, and my son was getting older," she told PEOPLE in 2020. "I adore being a full-time mother, but I began to consider what I would do once my children have left the nest. I had a problem with my voice; I was avoiding doing something about it."

She added, "As my son got more independence, I had more time to start focusing on my voice and I put all my energy into that. ... I believed that it was just exhaustion or burnout. But no — Lyme disease commonly affects the nerves. When I found a glimmer of hope, I seized it."

His dog is called Luna.

Luna, an Eja dog, has made appearances in Twain's video interviews. Kelly Ripa, the host of Live with Kelly and Ryan in 2021, recalled their chat from the previous year. Luna is your son Eja's dog, Ripa questioned. "Last time we spoke to you, you were in Switzerland and you had a dog named Luna in the background.

She explained before scooping up her puppy, Camper, "That's my son's dog, absolutely. My son Eja has a dog, Luna, and I miss my son since he's off doing his own thing. I had to acquire another tiny baby."

Eja's mother, who has owned various pets throughout his life, is the source of his passion for animals. She added, "I have horses and dogs all everywhere." "They keep me motivated and joyful."

Twain has taught him about supporting women

On Allison Interviews, a podcast hosted by Allison Kugel in 2020, Twain said, "Having a child was a completely life-changing experience." She said she hoped to instill some feminist principles in her son.

She told Kugel, "I believe Eja has learned, for instance, that women are fully capable of their own independence, independent decision-making, independent financial support, and independent dreaming. I've always been a strong woman in Elijah's life, but I've also frequently reminded him that I'm not perfect, that I have shortcomings, and that it's necessary to have empathy for the people in your life.

She continued by saying she hoped Eja would help the females around him. She asserted that "[women] are not always the pillar, they are not always the rock." It appears that Eja has long felt compassion for other people. "It's excellent for sons to realize that we're human and we all need each other." In 2009, Twain remembered how Eja, then 7 years old, had witnessed her sobbing and listening to depressing music when they were apart. She said on her website that "Eja walked up behind me and asked me why I was weeping." He wasn't initially upset; rather, he was shocked to see his mother sobbing and was unsure of how to react.

"[I] told Eja that music was very strong and can make people quite emotional. It can make you want to dance, feel furious, happy, or sad, and that this song was sad and made me cry," she said.
