CBN Instructs Banks To Continue Cashing Out Old Banknotes, Governor Charles Soludo Says

The Governor of Anambra State, Charles Soludo has announced that the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has instructed banks to continue dealing with old naira notes.

With this, Soludo ordered the residents of his state to continue using the old 200, 500 and 1,000 naira notes with the new currency notes throughout the state.

In a special statement by Charles Soludo, the former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, he said the CBN has ordered commercial banks in the country to continue paying their customers with old notes.

And they should continue to accept the old bills every time they are presented.

The Governor of Anambra State said he confirmed the authenticity of the order during an interview with the Governor of the Central Bank, Godwin Emefiele by telephone on Sunday night.

Soludo said the CBN Governor gave this order during a meeting held by the Central Bank with the country's banks on Sunday, March 12.

The governor of Anambra also urged the people of the state to sue all banks that refused to comply with the instructions of the Central Bank to pay and accept old currency notes.

He warns that his government will close any bank that defies this order.

The efforts made by Focus News Hausa source, Aminiya to confirm this from the authorities failed, where the spokesperson of the Central Bank, Isa Abdulmumin, failed to be heard.

However, some sources told our correspondent that there were various remote meetings between Emefiele and the Heads of Commercial Banks on Sunday evening, which shows the smell of truth in the matter.

As of this report, the Central Bank has not denied the claims made by Governor Soludo.

It can be recalled that on March 3, the Supreme Court decided to continue using the old currency notes until December 31, 2023.

Some of the governments of the states of the country have filed a case before the court, asking to postpone the deadline set by the CBN to stop using the old currency.
