Donielle Nash Shares the Best Acting Advice From Mom Niecy Nash
Donielle Nash is establishing her brand. Although she is best known as the daughter of Emmy-nominated actor Niecy Nash, the 27-year-old rising star has also made appearances in "The Sex Lives of College Girls" and "Never Have I Ever" produced by Mindy Kaling and most recently in an episode of her mother's most recent crime drama series, "The Rookie: Feds." She also wants to maintain the momentum.
Of course, Nash's mother played a role in her desire to pursue acting, but Raven-Symoné was also a significant influence. She tells POPSUGAR, "I wanted to change my name to Raven." She implies, "I don't know what the goal is, but if I'm needed for a few chuckles, I'm here."
Nash also wants Whitney to receive the justice she deserves in season three following the shocking surprise in the season finale, when she discovered Kimberly (Pauline Chalamet) kissing her ex-boyfriend, Canaan (Christopher Meyer). Nash quips, "I don't know how it's going to go obviously because I'm not in the writer's room, but I wouldn't be mad if Whitney smacked [Kimberly] and got her boyfriend back."
Nash isn't hesitant to try her hand at serious roles, even if her ultimate goal is to star in her own sitcom. Consider her appearance in the first season of "The Rookie: Feds." She sobs as Pamela, the roommate of a murder victim, while she speaks with FBI agents, one of whom is played by mum Niecy, about the alleged murderer. She compared performing with her mother to taking part in a Gordon Ramsay-judged food competition show. "That made me really nervous. It was a lot, but she was incredibly kind and supportive, "She continues, mentioning how Niecy assisted her in selecting which audition tape to submit and guided her through crying in front of the camera.
Donielle has relied on Niecy's wise counsel when she has felt insecure. Nash says, "She always urges to trust your gift. "I tend to overthink things, so I may do something and everyone in the room would say, "That was fantastic, that was so good," but not me. I don't believe I should repeat the action. She frequently advises people to "trust their gift, their education, and what they have learnt.""
