INEC Is Not Tampering With Election Materials, We Will Give The Complainants The Information That The Court Said To Be Given To Them, Said Yakubu

The National Electoral Commission (INEC) has confirmed that it is ready to hand over copies of the documents and all materials ordered by the court to the parties or candidates who are complaining about the February 25 election, for them to study.  that they want to do.

The chairman of the commission, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, said this when he received the team of lawyers from the LP party under the leadership of Attorney General Livy Uzoukwu.

A team of LP lawyers visited the INEC headquarters on Monday in Abuja.

Yakubu assured them that he received the letter sent to him by LP on March 6, which informed him that its lawyers will visit INEC to inspect the election materials.

He said the letter contains additional information informing him that he has informed the INEC Electoral Commissioners in every state, in the 36 states across the country including FCT Abuja.

The letter asked INEC to order the Electoral Commissioners of the states to hand over to LP the information and materials she needs to present her case in court.

Yakubu said that INEC has planned to hold a meeting with the Electoral Commissioners, so that they can discuss many issues, including the issue of providing authentic copies of the election records to all those who have filed a complaint, not just LP.

"I assure you that INEC is not trying to hide anything. We will give you everything you need.

"Two copies of the data are in the hands of the INEC Headquarters in Abuja. And we can provide you with these copies without wasting time. There are copies of the EC8Ds collected from the states and numbered EC8DA, which is the result of the election and  INEC itself collects from election results collection centers.

"The number is EC8DA, I think there are 39 copies. And we can provide you with copies without wasting time," said Yakubu.

He said the other copies of information are all from INEC offices in different states, and the commission would like to know the dates on which the lawyers will go to the states so that the copies can be prepared before they arrive, how they are coming, they just need to start studying.

"Other information is demographic and voter ID card identification information for more than 176,000 polling stations.

"We will have time to print enough copies of them, and then get them to you as soon as possible."

He then advised the team of INEC lawyers to meet with the INEC lawyers to explain many issues to each other.

The leader of the LP legal team, Uzoukwu told Yakubu that the reason for the visit was to pave the way for the examination of the presidential election materials.  "Because you know we have 21 days, during which we will file a lawsuit, on behalf of those we defend. Now, out of the 21 days, only about 10 days are left for us. Here it is.  till today we have not received a single copy of the documents or election materials."
