Kogi APC objects to the ADC candidate's victory being declared by INEC.
The African Democratic Congress candidate, Arc Salman Idris, was declared the victor of the just-concluded House of Representatives election for the Kabba/Bunu/Ijumu Federal Constituency in Kogi State, but the Campaign Council of the All Progressives Congress objected.
The declaration of INEC was labeled as electoral fraud by the party in a statement issued under the signature of Adesayo Ismail, Director General of the Campaign Council.
On February 26, Dr. Adams Baba, the collation officer, pronounced the constituency election inconclusive.
But, he changed his mind yesterday and declared the ADC candidate the election's victor.
"We (APC campaign council) are surprised at the way a supposed electoral umpire who should not be partisan and could have carried out its duties in accordance with the relevant laws suddenly turned around at the middle of the game due to alleged inducement to make such pronouncement," the statement said in part.
According to Ismail, the ADC is aware that they did not win the election outright, but they nevertheless chose to deceive the voters in order to temporarily seize political power.
"The reported declaration in Kabba yesterday is fake. In particular, when the lead margin is not greater than the PVC gathered in the concerned polling units, the electoral act, INEC regulations, and election guidelines for 2022 are unambiguous on the problem of over-voting.
The Returning Officer shall delay making a return for the constituency until polls have been held in the affected Polling Units and the results have been announced where the margin of lead between the two leading candidates in an election is NOT greater than the total number of voters who collected their Permanent Voters' Cards (PVCs) in Polling Units where elections are postponed, voided, or not held in accordance with Sections 24(2 & 3), 47(3), and 51(2) of the Electoral Act
The APC pleaded with Prof. Gabriel Longpet, the state's resident electoral commissioner, to stand up for himself.
The statement said, "It is unheard of that a respected commission like INEC could not maintain its earlier position of holding supplemental elections in accordance with the commission regulations and guidelines, 2022, because polls were cancelled in some polling units.
