PDP voters supported Gov. candidate Obi in Plateau.

According to Caleb Mutfwang, the Peoples Democratic Party's nominee for governor in Plateau State, 80% of the voters who supported Peter Obi for president of the Labour Party in the state were PDP members.

As he appeared on Tuesday's episode of Sunrise Daily on Channels Television, Mutfwang made this clear.

The governorship contender stated that while Plateau State residents favoured Obi for the president, they chose the PDP to hold the office of governor.

Recall that Obi defeated the PDP and the APC, which received 243,808 and 307,195 votes, respectively, to win Plateau State with 466,272 votes.

Despite Simon Lalong, the state's two-term governor, serving as director general of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, the people of Plateau State chose to support the LP candidate.

However, Mutfwang pointed out that the LP movement in the state was about Obi as a person, not the LP as a political organization.

80 per cent of those who voted for Peter Obi are PDP members, he claimed. They then return to the previous state of affairs because they only pursued Mr Peter Obi because they believed in him. I can promise you that the Plateau State electorate will support us and vote for us. Anger at the country's poor governance was expressed through the Peter Obi phenomenon. People genuinely want change, and many of them expressed that desire through Mr Peter Obi's candidacy. But, local dynamics also come into play.

"With all due respect, the Plateau does not have a Labour Party. There was a movement organized around Mr Obi, and some others sought to capitalize on it, but the National Assembly election revealed which party is popular with the electorate.

He added that only the ruling APC, not the opposition LP, has a chance of defeating the PDP in the governorship election on March 11.

If I'm going to add another party to the governorship race, it would be the APC and not the Labour Party, he added.
