Police stopped protesters from reaching the presidential palace in Sudan
Hundreds of protesters took to the streets in the city of Khartoum in the country of Sudan today, Tuesday, where they went to the presidential palace.
However, the police fired tear gas at them and prevented them from reaching the palace.
Young men and women came out carrying flags showing the names of those who were killed in the protest against the continuation of military rule.
Some boards also carry the message that the protests will continue until civil government is established.
Many participants of the protest came from three cities of the capital - Omdurman, North Khartoum, and Khartoum city.
The protest came as a celebration of the formation of new trade unions in the country.
The protests started in December 2018, led by professionals - including doctors, journalists, lawyers, teachers, and engineers.
They exacerbated it after General Abdul Fattah al-Burhan, the country's president and head of the country's ruling council, staged a coup in 2021 that ended the two-year term of democratic rule.
A new agreement aimed at returning to civilian rule, signed at the end of last year, has been met with skepticism by pro-democracy activists.
