Senegalese police and demonstrators got into a fight.

Senegalese police and demonstrators got into a fight.

Before opposition leader Ousmane Sonko's defamation trial, police in Senegal used tear gas and stun grenades to disperse protestors in Dakar, the nation's capital.

While Sonko is scheduled to be arraigned once more on Thursday, the police have prohibited protests in his favor.

The opposing party, however, rejected this and insisted that nothing would stop them from protesting.

Because of his alleged theft, Mr. Sonko is charged with defaming Tourism Minister Mame Mbaye Niang.

All of the accusations against Mr. Sonko were refuted. He won't be permitted to run for president in the upcoming election if he is proven guilty.

Since Mr. Sonkoa's trial started on March 16, there have been disputes in numerous places across the nation.

President Macky Sall requested last week that the police take the necessary action to ensure security following the continuous protests.
