Yesterday in the middle of the night, the party that announced the results of the Kano Central Senatorial election, Professor Tijjani Hasan Darma, announced the name of Kano Sardaunan Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau CON as the winner of the election held on February 25, 2023 in the party NNPP party.
The way it is: Sardaunan received the NNPP party card on May 18, 2022. On June 23, 2022, he announced his withdrawal from the APC in the senate hall. At his home, Fadar Mundubawa on August 29, 2022, he left the NNPP party. On the 27th of August 2022, he wrote to the National Electoral Commission headed by Professor Mahmud Yakub that he is not part of the NNPP and has withdrawn his candidacy for the position of senator in Kano Central.

Seeing this, the NNPP national party and its Kano branch asked to bring an alternative to MIS, the electoral commission said yes. However, they went and organized local elections without the knowledge of INEC and its instructions and named Senator Rufai Sani Hanga. Also, NNPP filed a lawsuit to compel INEC to accept the name of Senator Rufai Hanga on behalf of MIS. We went to the first court, which ordered INEC to accept the name that NNPP wanted, the electoral commission refused to comply with this order, appealed, in the second court, INEC did not succeed, now INEC has appealed to the Supreme Court. It is in this situation that the election was held on February 25, 2023, and the name MIS is still valid.
At INEC, Sardaunan Kano is the candidate of NNPP, there is no name of Senator Rufai Sani Hanga, so when the votes were collected, INEC said that Senator Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau CON got 456,787 votes, and AA Zaura of APC came second with 168, 677 votes.
Ten days ago, MIS confirmed to the world that if there will be an election, he will be the one whose name will appear in the position in the name of NNPP. But even if it is announced that he will win the election, he has already said goodbye to the seat of the senator, he will not go back, he asked that it be given to him.
