Registration of civilian firearms has begun in Niger

Authorities in the Republic of Niger have started to register firearms owned by civilians across the country.

The project - which is under the auspices of the Ministry of Interior - is designed to keep a record of small arms owned by civilians in the country.

The country's government said that the move will help to obtain information on illegally owned weapons, in an attempt by the country to eliminate the spread of small arms in the country.

The move comes amid an increase in armed attacks in some parts of the country.

Even on Monday, some bandits attacked two villages in Maradi state, where reports say they stole at least 250 animals.

Cattle theft and kidnapping for ransom continue to increase in the country.

On Sunday, five soldiers were killed by gunmen near the state capital of Agadez.

The soldiers were ambushed while they were providing security to the miners in the country.
