At least seven people have died due to avalanches in the state of Sikkim, northeastern India, and it is feared that many others are trapped.

Condoling the families of the victims, Home Minister, Amit Shah said, "We are monitoring the situation, the NDRF convoy will reach the area where the incident happened soon.

According to the statement issued by the army, as reported by the Reuters news agency, 30 tourists were brought back to Nathu province in five to six vehicles, which were covered by snow, around 11:30 a.m. morning.

He said the men were taking pictures near a river when the incident happened.
