Surfer in Hawaii loses a leg to a shark attack; authorities issue a warning before entering the sea

A surfer from Hawaii who had lost his right foot in a shark attack off the south shore of Oahu was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

According to authorities, the 58-year-old man was surfing in one of Honolulu's busiest tourist destinations, the Kewalo Basin, on Sunday morning when he was bitten on his right leg.

His son stated in a statement sent by the family: "He has a long and difficult path ahead, but my dad is a fighter, and you all know that despite this setback, it won't stop him. I am grateful to the emergency personnel who saved his life.

The man was in critical condition when paramedics took him off the beach to a local hospital.

Following the assault, patrols were sent out to keep an eye on the area, and rescuers were sent out to send out signals telling swimmers and surfers to remain out of the sea.
