The president of Iraq is visiting Iran

The President of Iraq, Abdul Latif Rashid, visited Tehran on a one-day visit to the country.

Iran's news agency IRNA said the president was with his wife during the visit.

Iran's Minister of Commerce, Ehsan Khandozi, welcomed the President at Mehrabad Airport in Tehran, while the Special Assistant to the President of Iran on Women's Affairs, Ansieh Khazali, welcomed the President of Iraq.

This is the first time that Mr. Rashid is visiting Iran, since his election as the president of Iraq in October last year.

It is expected that the two leaders will discuss issues related to the export of energy, and other pipelines.

Iraq says that as a result of financial problems and the sanctions imposed by the United States on Iranian banks, the country cannot pay its debts.
