42 YEARS AND THE DEATH OF BOB MARLEY
It has been 42 years since the death of the famous reggae singer Bob Marley due to cancer in Miami, at the age of 36.
On a day like today, May 11, 1981, the famous reggae singer and civil rights activist Bob Marley died.
The singer is one of the most popular and loved singers in history, where he sang famous songs including No Woman No Cry, One Love, and Redemption Song.
"Buffalo Soldier" was his most popular song in the UK, reaching number four in May 1983.
Time magazine named his 1977 album Exodus the Album of the Century
Marley was born in 1945 and his father is white while his mother is black Jamaican.
He spent his childhood in poverty and never saw his father, who was a sailor who worked for the British government.
He left their home at the age of 14 to pursue a music career in Kingston.
In 1972, Marley arrived in the UK with his band The Wailers where they toured the country with Johnny Nash hoping to launch his music career to the world.
A year later, The Wailers released an album called Catch a Fire and appeared on a BBC television interview.
Their interview had a great impact and they got fans in different countries.
On one of his music tours in 1975, they sang No Woman No Cry live at The Lyceum, London, where the song that gave Marley his first fame in the UK was released.
From there, the singer entered the music scene where he was known everywhere in the world.
Marley is known as a follower of the Rastafarian religion, he and his wife Rita, where put their religion in his songs.
The singer is very fond of football and often plays football before or after he sings.
I love music and football," he said in an interview in 1980.
Marley performed his last live concert in the UK on 13 July 1980 at New Bingley Hall, Stafford.
Marley died a year later of cancer, which he was diagnosed with in 1977. He was buried in his village of Nine Mile in Jamaica.
