A 26-year-old man was given a life sentence by the judge.
In Ikeja, Lagos State, a court that hears cases of violence against women and children gave 26-year-old Sunday George a life term for raping the 12-year-old daughter of his neighbor.
Judge Abiola Soladoye said he made this choice after the prosecution showed the court that George did commit the crime he was accused of.
"The girl said that George is their neighbor and that he started sexually abusing her in his room and told her not to tell anyone.
"When this girl comes to watch TV with George, he locks her in his room."
"The girl's father and the girl went to the police station and told them what George did. The police gave evidence to the court that proved what George did.
"The court knows that George is a liar, a slacker, and that he is known for raping children.
Soladoye asked the government to keep telling parents how important it is to pay attention to and care for their kids so that similar problems don't happen again.
