How Tinubu pushed me to drop out of the 2019 election for Gbajabiamila, but he has now turned his back on me - Betara
MPs who disagree with the APC's choice of Tajuddeen Abbas as its candidate for Speaker of the Federal Assembly have sent their objections to the mother of the APC party in Abuja.
Deputy Speaker Idris Wase, Muktar Betara, Sada Soli, Aminu Sani Jaji, Yusuf Gagdi, and Miriam Unuoha are all MPs who are part of the coalition of Progressive Speakers Aspirants (COPSA).
They took their petition to the national party office in Abuja and gave it to Abdullahi Adamu, who is the national head of the APC.
How Bola Tinubu pushed me to drop out of the 2019 race in favor of Gbajabiamila
Mukhtar Betara, a member of parliament, was upset and said that President-elect Bola Tinubu himself "asked me to drop out of the race for Speaker of the House and let Femi Gbajabiamila take over."
He also said that Tinubu, who was a party head at the time, asked him to drop out of the race for president in 2019.
"We're going to fight Femi Gbajabiamila in 2019," he said. "Tinubu called and said, 'I want Femi to be Speaker of the House,' because he's leaving the House after this term.
At that time, we all worked together to make sure Gbajabiamila won. Tinubu himself called me back and said, "Betara, I want you to help Femi run this council." I told him, "Father," because he was my boss.
After that, Betara attacked how the deputy president of the North-West Senate and the speaker of the North-West Senate were taken, saying that this had never been done before.
"The jobs of the two top councilors have never been split up into the same area. This is not fair at all.
Abdullahi Adamu, who is in charge of the APC, told the members of parliament to give back their knives and cool down.
Our trust has been betrayed - Wase
Idris Wase, who is the Deputy Speaker of the Federal Assembly, said that the APC had cheated them by choosing Tajudden Abbas, who was not the party's choice.
"We have done a lot to help the APC party and the parliament be successful. And we thought we'd get the chance to run for president of the House of Representatives, but what happened was like a deception.
