IS blew up a police car in the state of Tilabery.
Some national security officers in the Republic of Niger died when their car hit a mine while they were on watch in Tilabery state. Terrorists with bases in Mali and Burkina Faso are active in Tilabery state, which has a lot of problems.
So far, the officials haven't said much about what happened, and people in the area are asking for answers.
Yesterday, Sunday, May 7, 2023, a car from the National Guard hit a mine that IS fighters had set up in the gold-rich town of Samira, which is in the state of Tilabery. It's part of the new way they've been fighting war in the last few weeks in places like Diffa and Tilabery where terrorism is a problem.
Sources said that 7 security officers were killed in this attack, but the number of people who were hurt was not made public.
Brahim Mamoudou is an activist in Tilabery state. He told Voice of America that soldiers did fall on a mine while going to the gold-rich town of Samira in Tilabery state.
Even though there have been fewer attacks in Tilabery state in recent months, people there are still afraid because of what is going on in neighboring countries. They think that stronger steps need to be taken to keep from going back to the water.
The government hasn't said anything about what happened to the security officers in the village of Samira as of the time this story was written.
On the other hand, an update from the Ministry of Defence of Niger last Friday said that the country's soldiers killed 6 terrorists and arrested 19 others, 2 vehicles, and a lot of guns west of Ayorou town in Tilbaery state, while 3 bandits died while planting landmines in the south of Diffa state, which has a lot of Boko Haram activity.
