Purchasing electric vehicles, governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu declared, "means Lagos residents will stop working with gasoline and start using clean energy."
According to reports, the Lagos State Government has purchased brand-new electric cars for use as rental cars.
This was said in a message that the state's governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, posted on his Twitter page on Sunday.
In Lagos, the largest city in Africa with more than 15 million residents, he said the vehicles were purchased to improve mobility and lessen the effects of climate change.
According to Sanwo-Olu, the action will guarantee a "clean transport system" in the state.
"Our brand-new electric cars will enhance transportation while cutting down on pollution.
According to the governor's announcement, this indicates that the state's citizens will accept clean energy and be glad to utilize gasoline.
Although the number of vehicles purchased by the government is currently unknown, Sanwo-olu stated that more electric vehicles would be purchased to enhance transportation in the state.
The cars will be put to service in a "trial phase," he continued, over the upcoming months.
He claims that in order to enhance the transportation system, the government will be able to "collect sufficient information about the use of clean energy" and compare it to current transportation practices and oil operators.
