More than 70 former senators supported the payment of Akpabio and Barau Jibrin

Former senators you served with in the councils of the Second and Fourth Republics backed Godswill Akpabio, the former governor of Akwa Ibom, and Barau Jibrin, a senator from Kano, to be the Speaker and his deputy in the 10th Senate.

They said that if the two of them were elected, high posts would be spread around the country in a fair and equal way.

At a news conference with them on Monday in Abuja, the 72 former senators made this point clear.

Before the APC said that Akpabio and Barau wanted them, they said what they thought.

Akpabio was chosen by the people of Akwa Ibom North West to be a senator.

He was a senator from 2015 until 2019 when he became the leader of the minority party.

And Barau Jibrin is the senator for Kano North. He was re-elected in 2023.

The former senators who backed Akpabio and Barau talked to the media through Basheer Lado, who used to be a senator from Kano.

He said that they chose to back the two senators after talking with the right people.

Senators from the South East didn't trust Senator Akpabio and said Tinubu was trying to turn them against him.

Godswill Akpabio has been nominated to be President of the Senate, but senators who will finish their terms and voters in the South East have said they do not agree with this and will not accept it.

They are very clear that the Senate President should come from the South-East, not the South-South like Akpabio.

After leaving an emergency meeting in Abuja on Sunday, they told everyone about this choice.

Abdullahi Ganduje, who is leaving his job as Governor of Kano State, said that the APC Governors have agreed that Godswill Akpabio will be the President of the Senate if that is not forgotten.

Tinubu is said to have asked Senator David Umahi from Ebonyi to drop out of the race for leader of the House of Assembly. This is why Umahi dropped out.

Orji Kalu, Osita Izunaso, and Patrick Ndubeze are also running from the South East.

"Anyone who shows loyalty to Akpabio chooses progress to make South-East Saniyare-wareEleven senators from the South-East signed the agreement to decide not to back Akpabio. They said that if Akpabio is elected, the South-East will continue to be left out of the running of Nigeria.

Then, they asked Tinubu to stop supporting Akpabio and stop playing politics with favoritism.

They said that Tinubu should pick a candidate from the South-East who will back him if he wants to become president of the Senate.

Akpabio is also being attacked from the Northern side, where a group said that Akpabio does not love Northerners or the Northern part of Dungurugum.

Saidu, the leader of the North Residents, said that the group said, "Akpabio doesn't care about the people of the North, so we won't let him be President of the Senate."

The Northern Council of Elders (ACF) has broken ties with a group of people who said they wanted Godswill Akpabio, the former governor of Akwa Ibom, to become President of the Senate.

The leader of the ACF in the south of the country said that the ACF is not part of a group called the "Coalition of Northern Groups," which said it wanted Akpabio to become president of the Senate.

This was said by Saidu on Sunday in Abuja.

He said that if Akpabio is in charge of the Senate, it will be bad for Northern Nigeria.

"We want to make it clear that we are not among the people who want Senator Godswill Akpabio to be President of the Senate. And we have nothing to do with the group called "Coalition of Northern Group," which you say helped Akpabio.

"These groups have not been behind Akpabio in the North.

"No real Northerner will back Akpabio, because he doesn't care about the North.

"We are the ones who know Akpabio and know who he is. We know the people in the South who love the North because we live in the South. The truth is that Akpabio is not one of the people who love the North.

Saidu said that people who said they backed Akpabio either didn't know what they were talking about or were just given money.

In a story in PREMIUM TIMES Hausa, Governor Ganduje of Kano said that Akpabio was the choice of APC governors.

Abdullahi Ganduje, the governor of Kano state, said that the APC party governors have chosen to agree to choose the president of the senate from the South-South region.

People used to say that the president of the Senate was from either the South-East or the South-South.

They also agreed that the candidates who were asked to drop out should be given the jobs of leader of the majority, deputy leader of the majority, and speaker of the house.

But in a film from AIT TV, Ganduje confirmed that the APC governors had agreed to choose Godswill Akpabio, the former governor of Akwa Ibom state, as Sh.
