Nolan Ryan is Lynn Nolan Ryan, Sr., and Martha Lee Hancock Ryan's youngest child. He grew up with five other children. As a child, he liked to throw things at any kind of target. His father noticed this and told him to start playing baseball. Ryan started playing baseball for the Alvin Little League Baseball team when he was nine years old. He played different roles on the field besides pitcher. In the years that followed, he went to Alvin High School and played baseball for Coach Jim Watson's team. It was there that he started to show off his baseball skills, setting a record for the most strikeouts in a single game. Red Murff, a baseball scout for the New York Mets, saw him for the first time in 1963 and was blown away. So, Ryan's career as a professional baseball player began in 1965, when the New York Mets picked him in the 12th round of the MLB Draft. But he didn't make the team, so he was sent to the Appalachian League to play for the Marion Mets. The next year, he was back with the New York Mets because he played well.
He played for the Mets until 1971, and the 1969 World Series was the only one he won. He was moved to the California Angels in 1972, and he played there until 1979. During his time with the Angels, in 1972, 1973, 1975, 1977, and 1979, he was chosen for the All-Star team five times. After the 1979 season, his contract ended and he became a free agent. He quickly signed a deal with the Houston Astros, which greatly increased his net worth, and he stayed with the team until 1989. He kept doing great, and in 1981, 1985, and 1989, he was named an All-Star for the fourth time. Nolan left the Astros in 1989 because of a problem with his contract. He then joined the Texas Rangers and played for them until he retired in 1993.

In terms of what he has done, Ryan has been named NL Strikeout Leader 11 times and NL ERA Leader twice. He has the record for most strikeouts in a career with 5,714. In 1999, he was admitted into the Baseball Hall of Fame. Ryan was also chosen for the Irish American Baseball Hall of Fame and the Texas Rangers Hall of Fame. One of the best things about him is that he can throw a baseball pitch faster than anyone else in the world. His mark is 100.9 miles per hour.

After Ryan retired, he bought the Corpus Christi Hooks and the Round Rock Express, two minor league baseball teams. Ryan was president of the Texas Rangers for a short time. In 2010, he and Chuck Greenberg bought the team and Ryan became the CEO of the team. Ryan's net worth went up because the team did well in the future. His net worth went up again when Jim Crane, the owner of the Houston Astros, hired him as a special assistant.
Nolan Ryan's high school girlfriend, Ruth Holdorff, is the woman he has been married to since 1967. The couple has three kids, and they live in Georgetown, Austin, at the moment. He is also politically involved.
