Supreme Court Bans Nnamdi Kanu's Bail
The federal government is appealing a court's decision to order the release of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the People's Party of Biafra, IPOB, and the Supreme Court has approved the filing of nine additional charges against him.
The federal government requested the court's permission to include the new and revised charges in the package of the case that was filed before it on October 28, 2022, through the representation of Tijjani Gadzali.
The federal government was given the chance on Thursday by the five-judge Supreme Court, which is presided over by John Okoro Sune.
In contrast, IPOB leader Nmadi Kanu's attorney, Mike Ozekhome, informed the Supreme Court judges during the hearing that one of the reasons they want Nmadi Kanu to be released on bail is due to his illness.
Nnamdi Kanu's attorney requested that the court decide whether to give him bail or confine him to Ajiya and Kuje's prison facilities pending the outcome of his trial.
However, the Prosecutor pointed out that Nnamdi Kanu is being held by the DSS in a good-quality facility that has everything he needs for his well-being.
Following the hearing, the Supreme Court instructed Nnamdi Kanu's attorney, Lawyer Ozekhome, to withdraw his requests in order to expedite the proceedings.
