Tinubu pushed me to withdraw for Gbajabiamila in 2019, but now he has abandoned me -Betara

The MPs who are contesting the APC's choice of Tajuddeen Abbas as its candidate for Speaker of the Federal Assembly have written to the APC's mother party in Abuja to express their displeasure with the choice of Tajuddeen Abbas as its nominee for Speaker of the Federal Assembly.

Deputy Speaker Idris Wase, Muktar Betara, Sada Soli, Aminu Sani Jaji, Yusuf Gagdi, and Miriam Unuoha are among the MPs in the Coalition of Progressive Speakers Aspirants (COPSA).

They delivered their petition to the APC's national chairman, Abdullahi Adamu, at the party's national secretariat in Abuja.

How Tinubu persuaded me to withdraw in 2019 for Gbajabiamila

Mukhtar Betara, a member of Parliament, expressed his displeasure, adding that President-elect Bola Tinubu "asked me to withdraw from the race for Speaker of the House and leave it to Femi Gbajabiamila."

He went on to say that he dropped out of the presidential contest in 2019 at the request of Tinubu, who was then the party's leader.

"We are going to fight Femi Gbajabiamila in 2019," Tinubu declared. "I want you to let Femi be the Speaker of the House because he will resign from Housework after this term."

At the time, we all banded together to assure Gbajabiamila's victory. Tinubu personally contacted me and said, "Betara, I'm asking you to support Femi in holding this council," to which I replied, "Father."

Following that, Betara questioned the manner in which the deputy president of the North-West Senate and the speaker of the North-West Senate were seized, claiming that this had never been done before.

"The two chief councilors' positions have never been divided into the same area, which is completely unfair."

Abdullahi Adamu, the APC leader, requested members of parliament to return their knives and calm down.

Wase, our trust has been compromised.

Idris Wase, Deputy Speaker of the Federal Assembly, stated that the APC misled them by electing Tajudden Abbas, who was claimed to be the party's pick.

"We have made significant contributions to the success of the APC party and the legislature." And we expected to have the opportunity to run for President of the House of Representatives, but what has happened to us feels like a betrayal.
