Tracy Jamel Morgan was born in The Bronx, New York, on November 10, 1968. His mother, Alicia, was a housewife, and his father, Jimmy, was a musician, a Vietnam warrior, and a recovering heroin addict who left his wife and five children when Tracy was 6 years old. Morgan grew up in the Tompkins Houses in Bedford-Stuyvesant. When he was young, he was picked on by other kids. He went to DeWitt Clinton High School. During his senior year, in 1985, Tracy found out that his father had gotten AIDS from using hypodermic needles. In 1987, Jimmy's health got worse, so Tracy, who had just gotten married, quit school to take care of him.
