Anti-Drug Day: NDLEA Charges 501 People In Adamawa
In Adamawa State, 501 people have been charged with selling drugs by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
The head of the commission in the state, Femi Samson Agboala, said this at an international day event in Yola. He said that out of 501 people, the commission brought before the court, only 10 were women.
He also said, "From June 2022 to May 2023, the NDLEA brought charges against 501 people, helped 357 get back on their feet, and seized 1,164,700 kilograms of illegal drugs."
"We have given 781,000,000 Naira to the federal government's joint fund. This money came from people who were found guilty by a court of dealing in illegal drugs.
Agboala said, "We took away a Corolla car, two tricycles, and a boarding house in the town of Ngurore in the Yola South Local Government Area after we found 250 kilograms of drugs hidden in the house."
At the event, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, the governor of the state, said that his government backs any plan to fight drug abuse and trafficking in the state.
The governor, who was not there in person but was represented by his deputy, Professor Kaletapwa G. Farauta, also told the parents of the children to always keep an eye on what their kids were doing.
He said that this will help get young people off of drugs.
He also asked religious leaders and traditional rulers to help by teaching young people about the risks of drug abuse. He said this would stop people from sharing illegal drugs with each other.
