China has called for the creation of a favorable environment for voting on the Mali Constitution
Yesterday, on Friday, China's permanent ambassador to the United Nations asked the different groups in Mali to talk out their differences and make it possible for a referendum on the constitution to take place. The country's rule will be decided on Sunday.
Zhang Jun, China's permanent representative to the UN, said that the vote on Mali's constitution is an important step in keeping the transition process going and making sure that peace will last. China is glad that Mali has made work on writing the country's constitution, getting ready for the referendum, and setting up an electoral commission.
Zhang also said that the vote on Mali's constitution is a matter for Mali itself. Mali's freedom and sovereignty should be respected by the rest of the world.
China wants regional organizations to improve their communication with the government of Mali and help the transition process in Mali's political system. (John)
