 Ghana is debating passing stronger legislation to criminalise homosexuality and transsexual individuals.

The proposals of a committee that wants to pass legislation that will criminalise homosexuality and transgender people in Ghana are expected to be discussed in the House of Representatives today.

The law's first provisions call for a five-year prison term for homosexuals and a ten-year prison term for those who support gay and polygamous lifestyles.

It will be against the law to broadcast items that demonstrate support for homosexuality in the media and on social media. The law also addresses the subject of changing the thinking of gays so that they can return to normal.

Nanna Akufo-Addo, the president of Ghana, said that his administration interfered to change some provisions of the law.
