If Buhari Removed Oil Subsidy Tinubu Would Not Be President -Garba Shehu

Garba Shehu, the former President Muhammadu Buhari's spokesman, said that Bola Ahmed Tinubu would not be president if Buhari had passed the law to get rid of oil subsidies.

Shehu posted this on his Twitter page, where he explained why Buhari didn't sign the law and why Tinubu stopped supporting him from the start of his rise to power.

Some people are wondering why Buhari didn't get rid of the support when he was in charge.

Garba Shehu said that if Buhari had taken away the oil support, the APC would have lost the election in 2023.

He said he decided to make the statement because people want to know about the removal of the subsidy and what stopped Buhari from signing. They also want to know about the debates that happened after the financial reform.

He said that the party should come out and answer the questions, but he had to force them to come out and say something.

"It's true that the Tinubu and Shettima governments did a good thing by getting rid of fuel handouts. We think that getting rid of oil handouts isn't just about the president or what's best for him. It's something that affects the whole country."

He said that the problem of getting rid of the fuel subsidy and changing the currency notes has been a source of debate, but that the Buhari government is focusing on getting rid of the fuel subsidy at the right time so that everything goes smoothly.

He also said that when things came to a head in 2023, when the Buhari government insisted on getting rid of fuel subsidies, the people didn't vote for the APC because they didn't agree with the party.

"But we need to think about the politics. Then, the Buhari government bet that the APC would win the election by getting rid of oil handouts. And that helped make it happen."
