What is Jim Kelly's Net Worth?

Jim Kelly is an American football player who used to play professionally and has a net worth of $25 million. Jim Kelly is best known for playing for the Buffalo Bills for eleven years, but he also played for the Houston Gamblers for two seasons in the USFL. During his time with the Bills, Kelly made the "K-Gun" offense famous, which mostly used shotgun formations with no-huddle. This worked pretty well, and Jim led the team to a lot of high-scoring accomplishments.

Jim Kelly broke records when, from 1990 to 1993, he led the Bills to four straight Super Bowls, which they lost each time. Jim was admitted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2002. He was one of the few Bills players to have his jersey retired. He gave up work in 1996.

Early Years

James Edward Kelly was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, on February 14, 1960. During high school, it was easy to see that Jim was going to play football professionally in the future. He was named to the all-state team and threw for almost 4,000 yards during this time. In high school, he also threw 44 scores and only one interception. Kelly also played basketball, and he was almost as good at that as he was at football.

Jim was given a number of grants after he graduated from high school, including one from Penn State University. But Kelly decided to go to the University of Miami instead, where he helped the football program grow a lot. Jim threw for more than 5,000 yards and 33 scores in college.

Career

Jim Kelly's first team was the Houston Gamblers, even though he was first picked by the Buffalo Bills. Jim told his agent that he wouldn't play for the Bills because he didn't like the cold, but he still signed the deal. But Jim left the room after getting a call from the general manager of a USFL team. This was a strange turn of events. Later, it came out that the USFL had let Kelly choose any team he wanted to play for.

He joined the Houston Gamblers in the end. During this time, he played very well. He threw for almost 10,000 yards and 83 scores. During this time, he played in the "Greatest Game that No One Saw," a match between the Los Angeles Express and the Gamblers. With less than ten minutes left in the game, Kelly threw three touchdowns to lead the team to an amazing return.

He joined the Bills fully in 1986, and over the next few years, he led the team to a lot of success. During this time, he was known for his "no-huddle offense," which kept the defense from making changes and made them very quick and decisive.

Highest Paid Player In The NFL

Jim signed a five-year, $8 million deal with the Buffalo Bills in August 1986. With this deal, Jim Kelly became the NFL player who made the most money. Joe Montana was the player who made the most money before him, with a yearly salary of $1,600,000. Taking inflation into account, $8 million in 1986 is about the same as $20 million today. Back then, making $1.6 million was like making $4 million a year now.

Earnings from a Job

Near the end of his record-setting five-year deal, Jim signed a six-year, $18.65 million deal with Buffalo. That came out to about $3.1 million per season on average. All of Jim Kelly's earnings in the NFL add up to just under $27 million. In today's money, that's the same as about $55 million.

ale of Buffalo Bills

After Ralph Wilson died in 2014, it was said that Jim Kelly was "prepared to make a bid" to buy the Buffalo Bills. A lot of other people, like Donald Trump and Jon Bon Jovi, were linked to the buy. The Bills brand was worth about $870 million at the time.

Later, it came out that the brand had been bought by the Pegula family for $1.4 billion. This is the same family that owns the NHL team Buffalo Sabres. Jim Kelly was quick to say that he liked the deal. He said that it was a great day for Western New York and that he was glad the Bills would stay in Buffalo.

Real Estate

In 2009, it was said that Jim Kelly had sold a home in the Buffalo neighborhood of Orchard Park. Aside from this fact, however, not much else was shown. The person who owned it was never revealed, and neither was the exact price. But the price that was asked was $589,000. The house is very nice. The house has 4800 square feet and three stories. It was built in 1989 out of brick and wood. Kelly and his family moved into a house in East Aurora a year ago.

In 2007, it was said that Jim Kelly had sold his home in the Virginia area of Chesdin Landing. The house is quite big, with 14,554 square feet. The house is also on 7 acres of land, and at one point it was valued at $3.6 million. Kelly didn't live in this house for very long before she sold it for $2.6 million. After finding out that his young son had a rare disorder, he had to move back to New York state and sell the house.

He bought the land for $378,000 in 1997, but it took him a long time to build his custom home there. There is a huge leisure room with a 24-foot wood ceiling, a music area, a stone fireplace that burns wood, and a full-service bar that seats 12 people and has backlights. Outside is a 1,700-square-foot building with a swimming pool and a bathhouse. The land also has access to Lake Chesdin from the water.

Matters of health

Over the years, Jim Kelly has had a lot of health problems. He was told he had cancer in his jaw in 2013. He said that he was cancer-free after the surgery to remove the cancer. In 2014, he had to go through treatment because the cancer came back. Later in 2014, he told the press that doctors had found no sign of cancer.

In 2018, Jim Kelly said that his cancer had come back for a second time. His cancer was taken out, and his jaw was put back together again. In 2018, he went back to the hospital for more surgery, and in 2019, his wife told everyone that he no longer had cancer.
