Keyamo will file an appeal as the court gives Atiku and ICPC N10 million in a "frivolous" case
Festus Keyamo, the former Minister of State for Labour and Employment, has said that he will appeal the N10 million fine that was given to him in a case he brought to investigate Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the Peoples Democratic Party's candidate for president in 2023.
The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offenses Commission is also part of the suit.
On Monday, a Federal High Court judge in Abuja named James Omotosho gave Keyamo the fine.
Omotosho said that Abubakar and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission should each get N5 million.
The lawsuit, which was labeled FHC/ABJ/CS/84/2023, was seen as "frivolous, vexatious, and an abuse of court processes." The cost of the lawsuit should be paid at a rate of 10% per year until the cost is completely paid off.
A statement from John Ainetor (Esq. ), Assistant Head of Festus Keyamo Chambers, Abuja Office, said, "Earlier today, a Federal High Court in Abuja dismissed the case filed by Festus Keyamo, SAN, CON, against the candidate of the PDP in the last Presidential Election, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar over the SPV saga, mainly because the court was of the opinion that the law-enforcement agencies were not given enough time to
"Our client politely disagrees with the reasons for the decision because the law enforcement agencies did not show that they were willing to start investigations, even if they were given more time. We want to make it a formal rule that the public can't wait forever for law enforcement agencies to do their jobs.
"The suit was meant to get the agencies to show that they were ready to look into it. We are going to appeal that ruling right away to the Court of Appeal, and the fight over this issue will continue."
