 The founder and publisher of a newspaper was Marnie.  She started the Boca Beacon in 1980, a monthly newspaper in Boca Grande, which by 1985 had grown to a fortnightly.  She sold the journal in 1988 and thereafter became the head of the Bayou Bonita Communications Corp. in Boca Grande.

 She was a graphic artist, library clerk and at the *St. Petersburg Times* before starting her own newspaper.
