Despite the nation's exorbitant cost of living, which has led to the concealing of the deaths that occurred there last year, the current president, Julius Maada Bio, is running for a second term.

The election had 13 candidates, including one woman, although it is clear that Bio's biggest rival is Samura Kamara, the nominee for the opposing APC.

President Bio asked the populace to vote peacefully and hold the victory ceremony without violence after casting his ballot at the Wilberforce barracks in Freetown.

However, Lansana Dumbuya, the secretary of the APC opposition party, told the French news agency AFP that the reason for the delay in the party's strongholds is that voting began early and ended late. The SLPP faction in power is powerful.

According to the APF news agency, a military officer and his representatives met at a polling location in Freetown and confirmed that voting began at 2:00 p.m. on the planned time of 7 am and ended at 5 pm.

According to a statement released by the civil society organisations in the country that are overseeing the election, 84 percent of polling places nationwide opened for voting at 8 a.m., with 59 percent of those locations in the city of Freetown being among the polling places that opened on time.

The country's citizens are currently awaiting the election results, according to reports, and many people turned out to vote during the election.
