More than 1,000 people in Niger are facing the threat of losing their lives
On Thursday, the Pilgrim Association called an emergency meeting with the heads of Hajj and Umara companies in the country to talk about this.
This year, more than 1,000 Hajj travelers from the Republic of Niger are being pressured to take off their headscarves, according to Elhaji Ibrahim Kaigama, the head of the country's Hajj and Umrah Commission, COHO.
Kaigama said this at an emergency meeting with the heads of Hajj and Umara companies in the country that was set up by the group on Thursday.
The agency said that only 14,492 of the 15,591 people who paid money to go to the holy land for this year's Hajj have gotten visas, while 1,390 people have not received their visas.
The agency said this happened because some companies didn't pay the visa fees they were given by the Saudi government in order to get visas.
But COHO didn't say who the companies were that didn't pay the visa fees.
Because of this, many people don't know if they are affected by the problem.
So far, the agency and COHO have said that 50 percent of the holy land has been reached by planes that were hired to take people from Niger there.
