Osimhen won the African Footballer of the Year award

Victor Osimhen, a Nigerian player who plays well for the Napoli team in Serie A, got the award for African football player of the year at a ceremony in Accra, Ghana.

Before he won, Osimhen had to beat out fellow Premier League players Muhammad Salah and Riyad Maharez, who had won the African Footballer of the Year award three years in a row.

Last season, 24-year-old Osimhen scored 31 goals, which helped his team, Napoli, win the Serie A title for the first time in 33 years.

The player also broke the record for the most goals scored by an African in Serie A, which was held by former World Cup winner George Weah. The player scored 26 goals, which was the most of any African player in Serie A.
