SECURITY: Gunmen Harass Farmers In Northern Nigeria

Nigerians continue to complain about how the country and its people are being hurt by the problem of instability.

 

This comes at a time when bandits are still killing and kidnapping farmers and when some people haven't done anything for years because of the lack of safety.

Nigeria has been having trouble, especially in the northern states, because of the problem of instability.

Many governments say they care about and support farmers, and the northern region is a good place to grow food. However, some farmers have spent years doing nothing because thieves have kept them from getting into the fields and working as hard as someone else. The Sokoto state Isa farmer who lived through the flood told the Voice of America about it. He said that he hasn't done anything for 4 years because thieves have stopped him from working or going out to do business, making it hard for him to get food.

In an interview with Voice of America, Habibu Halilu Modaci, a member of parliament who represents the Isa area in the state legislature, said that thieves have not only stopped farming but also killed farmers when they went to work on their farms.

He said that even this week, thieves killed some people who went to the farm to work and tried to take others away.

People have been upset about this for a long time, but the current government has promised to get rid of Nigeria's security problems, even though the previous government made a similar promise and didn't keep it.

Dr. Yahuza Getso and other security experts think that if the Nigerian government is really doing it, it needs to show that it is really doing it because the way it is doing it now has problems that need to be fixed if an answer is to be found.

Bandits are a problem in many parts of northern Nigeria because they block entry to farms. This could make it harder for the government to meet its goal of getting enough food to everyone in the country.
