Terrorist groups have intensified drug trafficking in the Sahel-MDD

The UN agency that fights drugs said that the amount of illegal drugs seized in the Sahel region of West Africa went from 13 kilogrammes in 2020 to 863 kilogrammes just two years after armed groups in the area joined the operation to make money.

This is in the report from the 2023 Anti-Drug Commission. It says that drug users were caught last year and that 488 kilos of the devil's drug were found in Burkina Faso, 213 kilos in Niger, and 160 kilos in Mali.

The agency said that the number could be higher than that because it thinks there are a lot of people in the area who haven't been caught yet.

Burkina Faso, Mali, and the Republic of Niger have spent years trying to stop terrorist actions in their countries, including those of terrorists with ties to Al-Qaeda and ISIS.

Experts think that the drug comes into the country through West and Central Africa. In the last few years, more and more people have been using it.
