Ghana is once again the biggest producer of gold from Africa. This is because gold mining operations increased by 32% last year.

The Ghana Trade Commission says that this is because both big and small gold mines are getting bigger.

But now that more gold is being mined, the country is having problems with the environment.

Now, illegal miners have hurt the woods, rivers, and streams, which is a dangerous situation for the community as a whole.

Galamsey is the name for illegal mining. It is a way for many young people, especially in the south of the country, to make a living.

The government and experts think that the country will have to stop taking water from other countries soon if the problem isn't fixed.

Even cocoa farming is in danger because miners are destroying the cocoa fields.

In the past, the government tried to get rid of illegal miners by sending in the army, but this did not work.

Due to a drop in gold mining, South Africa passed Ghana in 2021 to become the biggest producer of gold from Africa.

But now, according to the Ghana Chamber of Commerce, the field has grown a lot.
