The EU will support Tunisia with more than one billion euros to revive its economy
With more than one billion euros, the European Union will help Tunisia expand its economy and lessen the number of migrants crossing the Mediterranean Sea.
The chronically indebted North African nation, which is in talks to request a bailout from the International Monetary Fund, has served as a crossing point for migrants and asylum seekers trying to enter Europe.
This was said by Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission while visiting with the Prime Ministers of Italy and Germany.
According to her, the EU will make a long-term contribution of 9 million euros while making a 150 million euro contribution right away to help their relations.
According to Von der Leyen, the money will assist Tunisia improve commerce and investment while also aiding in the closing of its borders to stop people from crossing into Europe illegitimately.
The president expressed her optimism that all parties will sign an agreement before the organization's general conference, which will be place this month, following her discussions with Tunisian President Kais Saied.
