The NLC will hold a session on the denial of salaries to some workers in Kano

The Kano State labour union will meet on Friday to discuss Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf's decision to halt the payment of the salaries of 10,800 employees by the administration of former Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.

Kabiru Inuwa, the chairman of the Kano NLC, told Leadership Hausa over the phone that the group met on Tuesday to examine the issue and set up a meeting for Friday to make a decision.

"We will make a final decision on the issue after a meeting on Friday," Inuwa said to our correspondent. "And we will make any decision we reach public."

Last Monday, Leadership Hausa reported that the current governor of Kano State had instructed the state's accountant general to stop paying the salaries of 10,800 employees who were hired by the outgoing governor, Ganduje, before taking office.

Before taking office, Yusuf charged that the Ganduje administration had illegally hired more than 10,800 people.

The Accountant-General, Abdulkadir Abdusalam, told the media in Kano on Monday that the governor had instructed his office to withdraw the employees from the state's salary system.

According to the Accountant-General, his office will launch an investigation to confirm the veracity of the affected workers' work in order to dismiss those who were employed unlawfully.
